For multi-day walks. The GPS receiver is the one real drain the app controls, so this lets it
sleep between fixes instead of running non-stop — same accuracy when it speaks, it just speaks less often.
Maps, IDs and the saved species book keep working exactly as they do now.
The GPS receiver runs continuously. The dot is live and the track is unbroken.
Bigger than any setting: turn the screen off — fixes keep arriving with it dark.
Then save the map below. Airplane mode helps too and does not stop GPS: it kills the transmitters, which draw more than the receiver does.
📥 Offline maps
Out past signal? Your plant, mushroom, animal & fish IDs already work fully offline — they ride inside the app. The map picture is the only piece that needs a connection, and it saves itself now: every tile you look at is kept. Pan and zoom over the ground you mean to walk before you leave the house, in street and in satellite, and it will be there when the signal is not.

The trails, creeks & streams come bundled with the area too — the lines are tiny next to the map picture, so hikers get the paths and anglers get the water. Michigan first.
Why there is no "download the whole county" button: the street map is donated public
infrastructure whose usage policy forbids bulk downloading, and mass-fetching it would get
this site cut off from map tiles entirely. Saving what you actually look at breaks no rule
and costs the map nothing.

Snap your licenses, tags & ID — kept only on this device, never uploaded, so you carry them on one walk. Fishing/hunting docs auto-flag yellow as they near expiry and red once they lapse. (Anyone holding your unlocked phone can open these — the trade for keeping them off any server. Keep the physical/official copy too; this is a convenient carry, not a legal replacement.)
🌍 Community map
Every find you log is shared precisely — and no one else can see it for 24 hours.
This is the pact. Log a find and its exact spot joins the shared map, so the next
forager can walk up to that oak and read what it is. In return you get everyone else's.
Your name is never attached, and nothing you log is visible to
anyone else for a full day. By then you are long gone and the pin could belong to anyone
who walked past — the delay is what keeps you private, not a blurred circle.
Change your mind about one? Open it and
retract it. Keeping a spot to yourself means not logging it.
⚑ Report a discrepancy
Found something you believe is wrong — a missing lookalike, a bad tier, a range that doesn't match your corner of the country? Say so. Local knowledge beats a database, and every accepted correction makes this sharper for the next forager. Matt reviews each one personally.
Opens your mail app with the report filled in — nothing is sent until you press send. Safety-critical reports are looked at first.

A living almanac from Iron Roots Supply. Your finds live on this device and in one shared map — every log you make joins it, and every other forager's joins yours. Nothing is visible to anyone else for a full day; that delay is what keeps you anonymous, not a fuzzed location. Add to your home screen: tap Share → Add to Home Screen, and it opens like an app.
Export writes a dated .json of every find, park, track and home base — photos included.
Keep one somewhere off this phone. Restore merges a file back in; it never deletes what
is already here.
